Hope From Within
Last Post, National Poetry Month, The Poet
Perhaps today, my pain is washed away…
…baptized by life, an unorthodox rite.
My soul to cleanse, but to whom should I pray…
…I’m lost as sea, on this treacherous night.
Rise with the tide, but I come crashing down…
…I row along, but I’m not progressing.
A mighty fall, then I begin to drown…
…last gasps of air, is this all a blessing?
Down the abyss, I look up towards the sky…
…I’m then pulled up, a rapid ascension.
I can’t explain, but I started to cry…
…a scoured tongue, peradventure freshen.
My thoughts within, external damnation…
…hope from within, internal salvation.
