Now that I have caught your attention with a pithy headline, I’d like to tell you a story about Too Apparel. I first came across Too Apparel on Twitter as I was searching for clothing companies that help to provide every day essential items to those in need. Every time I find out about one of these “social for good” companies, I always enjoy the opportunity to help spread their story.

The Too Apparel story started in early 2013, when the wife and husband founding team of Sara & Kevin Goryl, discovered that one of the most needed items for donation was underwear. But not just any type of undies, but the underwear that could last throughout the day, for all types of women. When Sara and Kevin visited a local women’s shelter in their hometown, they heard stories of the humiliation that women can feel, simply for needing to ask for new underwear. Just reading this story started to bring wells to my eyes.

So with Sara’s expertise as an apparel technical designer, they decided to use soft, stretchable cotton that wouldn’t be restricting on a woman’s waistlines. As a result of their commitment to providing affordable, comfortable underwear, they have been successful in designing four great styles “for women by women.”

However, what really excites me about the Too Apparel story is their mission. For every pair purchased, Too Apparel donates a pair of women’s underwear to domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers and women’s addiction centers. Therefore, when you buy one pair and a pair is donated, you will make a difference too. Even a simple gift of underwear often times can get can overlooked, but it helps to show that someone cares about the difficult times that women are faced when they need to enter into a shelter. I know for me, I hadn’t even considered that this was something that was needed. I now know better.

The notion of giving back and “paying it forward” is something that all of us can do. Whether or not it simply is in the form of buying one pair of underwear or simply sharing this story of a great company doing great things for those in need. I know how great it makes me feel knowing about Too Apparel. Hopefully you do too.
