Many of my on-line friends only know the day of the week based upon a particular hashtag. Last Friday it was #BlackFriday for in-store shopping. Then yesterday it was #CyberMonday for on-line shopping. Well today it is December 2, 2014 and it is #GivingTuesday, where we each have the opportunity to give back “Tue” someone or “Tue-do” something for someone else.

There are many great causes that each one of us can support today, but it isn’t just about giving money to a particular charitable cause, it’s about feeling inspired to do an unselfish act on behalf of someone else. You could simply buy a cup of coffee for the person behind you in the coffee shop. You could tell one of your co-workers how much you appreciate all of their hard work.

Personally for me, I am throwing my support behind No Kid Hungry, as for every $10 donated, this amount helps to provide 100 meals for children in need. But here is also the cool thing about this years #GivingTuesday for No Kid Hungry’s campaign, Hickory Farms has generously agreed to match up to $50,000 to help support No Kid Hungry. Now, I’m a simple-kinda math and potatoes kinda guy, but this equates to 500,000 meals for hungry children in the United States. Noble double this amount with the match by Hickory Farms and voila, 1 million meals for children that really need ’em. Further, you can donate directly through Hickory Farms website here and while you’re at it, pick up some meat and cheese and give it to your mail carrier or newspaper carrier this holiday season.

Together we can make a difference in other peoples lives by giving back what we can, when we can, to those that are in need. For your positive action, you will get great satisfaction.
